Mi friend Jeannette ("Montessori at Home") gave me this wonderful idea of using shoe shelves (sorry, there's got to be a better way of translating this) as a Montessori shelf. I did not have to buy one.. all I did was remove the gigantic dust layer from one I had in my closet. This will work out just fine as Ym's LITTLE MONTESSORI CORNER until I finally get our classroom ready. Little by little we are getting there...!
(I'm actually trying to ignore my negative thoughts saying: Girl, you're taking forever!!!)

Granero y Silo Nuevo / New Barn and Silo
GRACIAS Abu!!!

This toy barn and silo was a gift from Grandma Aida to the kids. I think she got it at Target from her trip to TX. With this barn and the "thousands" of farm animals we already have, Yn was going over the concepts of INSIDE/OUTSIDE, UP/DOWN, RIGHT/LEFT with his baby brother. THANK YOU grandma!!!

I want to show you this PATTERN ACTIVITY I tried to do with Ym which is part of his Neurological Development Program (Manual Area). But I must warn you it was pretty PAINFUL to him. He didn't like it one bit. So, I cancelled it very quickly! Fortunately, I had time to take pictures.
I guess we'll be trying it in the future...

Cuchareando ARROZ / Spooning RICE

Mama was cooking white rice. Mr. Ym wasn't cooperating one bit. So mama decided to have him "cook his own rice". But Mr. Ym was so sleepy that he even argued with each grain that went outside the pan. Oh, well! He was still doing his daily spooning, wasn't he?.

I didn't have any plans on doing this activity this week. I wanted Ym to count household items as much as possible just to make sure he was counting from 1-10 with no problems at all. But Mr. Ym found this magnetic chalk/dry erase board I had been saving since November from Melissa & Doug. The board came with numbers and letters, so I just had to take advantage of this all-of-the-sudden interest in NUMBERS. This interest was NOT there before. He even had a hard time counting. This is why I wanted to save this activity for later. Just to make sure he wouldn't get into a "fight" with numbers.

***I was very curious about the way Montessori math curriculum worked. Such curiosity inspired me to do my own little research… Surprisingly, I discovered how sensory exercises help the child learn the basics of math and become familiar with numbers. The pink tower is the exercise that introduces us to math in a sensory way. The number rods introduces us directly to quantity. Each and everyday I am more impressed by Dr. María Montessori! Following is a very interesting video about this.
