Víspera de Reyes / The Night before Three Kings Day

Yo estoy casi “muerta” del cansancio… pero no quería dejar pasar esta oportunidad de compartir mi ratito de alegría con ustedes…

Este es el 1er año que veo que Yamil entiende lo que son los REYES MAGOS. Así que, ahora son 2 los niños en casa que tienen gran inocencia. Shhhh! No digan nada… Y para seguir con la tradición, esta noche salimos afuera para recoger pasto para los camellos.

Even though I'm exhausted I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share this special moment with you guys...
This is the 1st time I've noticed Yamil really understand the meaning of the THREE KINGS. Now we have 2 innocent kids at home.  Shhhh! Don't say a word to the other kid... And to keep the tradition alive, the kids went outside to pick up grass for the camels.

Comenzaron de lo mas bien arrancándo el pasto con las manos. Pero Yamil quiso hacerlo con mas estilo, así que buscamos sus tijeras.

Everything started off just fine.  The grass was pulled out with their bare hands.  Yamil, however, wanted to be more stylish, so we had to get the scissors.

Yann prefirió seguir usando sus manos. Y Yamil a los 2 segundos dijo: “Mami, me cansé de recortar.” Como de costumbre, su hermano tuvo que salir al rescate y ayudarlo a terminar su cajita.

Yann, on the other hand, preferred his hands. And, in about 2 seconds, Yamil said:  "Mom, I'm done cutting".  As usual, his brother had to come to the rescue and help him finish his little box.

Así lucían las cajitas luego de terminadas. Ni se crean que las pintamos nosotros. Fueron cortesía de Payless. Yo llevo como 3 años usando las mismas.

This is how the little boxes looked. Don't even think we did the painting. These boxes were provided by Payless. I've had them for 3 years now.

Luego, llevamos las cajitas llenas de pasto al cuarto de los nenes para colocarlas debajo de sus camas ...

Then, we took the boxes to the kids' room. They were put under their beds.

...y el agua para los camellos no podia faltar... DENTRO del envase y FUERA de este tambien.  En ese momento me sentí frustrada...  pero le tomé fotos de todos modos porque sabía que en algún momento ALGUIEN se iba a reir.

Water for the camels was served in the container... and spilled everywhere. One box was OK, the other one had a little accident.  It was kind of frustrating for me but took pictures anyway. I just knew SOMEONE was eventually gonna laugh.

Suena -o- No Suena? / Sound -or- No Sound?

La primera vez que vi esta presentacion fue en YOU TUBE.  Me encantan todos los videos de Tami Elliot! Ya los inclui en mi seccion de "Montessori videos".  Luego, en Chasing Cheerios vi una variacion bien original y creativa. Y tuve que copiarmela!!! Gracias Melissa ... y tambien Amy de The Wonder Years.  Cuando se lo presente a Yamil ni caso le hizo.  Pero luego dio una miradita a la bandeja y decidio intentarlo.

The first time I saw this presentation was on YOU TUBE.  I love all the Tami Elliot's videos. I just included them in my MONTESSORI VIDEOS section. Then I saw a similiar activity on Chasing Cheerios that I had to copy.  Thanks Melissa ... and Amy too from The Wonder Years. Yamil just ignored me when I presented the material to him. I was latter that he really took a 2nd look at it and gave it a try.

Granja en Forma de ARBOL / TREE-SHAPED Barn

Llevaba tiempo pensando en qué otro uso le podía dar a este calendario de adviento que había comprador. Por fin se me ocurrió algo…


Hicimos un cuento con los animals de la granja donde la vaca, el caballo y el burro estaban dando un paseo y se encontraron UNA GRANJA EN FORMA DE ÁRBOL!!!. En la granja se escuchaban muchos sonidos de animales y con cada sonido Yamil tenía que encontrar el animal correspondiente dentro de su cajita. Al final se hizo una fila con todos los animales y Yann le fue preguntando uno a uno cuál era ese animal.  Los contamos tambien. Gozamos un montón!!! Y cómo fue que escojimos la vaca, el caballo y el burro como nuestros personajes principales? Fácil. No cabían dentro de ninguna de las cajitas… ;)

I’ve been thinking for awhile what to do with this advent calendar I had bought. I finally figured it out…

We did a story with our farm animals in which the cow, the horse and the donkey were taking a walk and, all of a sudden, found a TREE-SHAPED BARN!!! There were all sorts of animal sounds at the barn and every time we did a certain sound Yamil had to help the horse find the animal inside the boxes. At the end, we put all the animals in a row a Yann kept asking his little brother the name of each animal it was. We also counted them.  We had a great time!!! How did we get to choose the horse, the cow and the donkey to be the main characters? Simple. They did not fit inside any of the boxes… ;)

Sin Jamón, por favor / No Ham, please

Creo que necesito enseñarle a Yamil lo que es un “sandwich” o emparedado. Cada vez que me pide uno me dice que NO le ponga jamón. Me parece que esto es un pan con queso, no? Bueno, pero de todos modos, él preparó su propio estilo de “sandwich”.

I think I need to show Yamil what a real sandwich is. Every time he asks for one he strictly specifies with NO ham. Last time I checked this was a grilled cheese. Anyway, he made his own version of a sandwich.

Dale! Tú Puedes! / C’mon! You Can Do it!

A simple vista, esta actividad podrá parecer de motor fino. Pero fue más una lección en valores: LA PERSEVERANCIA. Perseverar es apegarse a algo y no darse por vencido, aún si es difícil (definición del Manual de Escutismo). Esto es algo que estamos trabajando fuertemente en casa. BUEN TRABAJO YANN! Lograstes sellar la bolsa!

You would think this is a fine motor activity. But, it was more of a lesson in values: PERSEVERANCE. To persevere is to stick to something and not give up, even if it's difficult (definition taken from the Cub Scout Manual-spanish version).  This is something we’re working on at home.  GOOD JOB YANN!  You finally sealed the ziploc!

Nos Vamos! Ponte los Zapatos! / Time to leave! Put your Shoes on!!

Ese ritual de preparar a los nenes para salir me VUELVE LOCA a veces. Pero mientras el humor me lo permite aprovecho para que Yamil practique el vestirse solito. Si te estás preguntando si logró ponerse las medias, la contestación es NO. Pero hizo su mejor intento!!!

That ritual of getting the kids ready to go somewhere drives me NUTS sometimes. But, as long as my mood cooperates, Yamil gets to practice getting dressed all by himself. In case you’re wondering if he put his socks on all by himself, the answer is NO. But he gave his best try!!!

Las Nenas / The Girls

Estas son “mis nenas”, A y S, en Despedida de Año. Bueno, en realidad, mis sobrinitas, las hijas de mi hermano. Para mi son las nenas MAS BELLAS DEL MUNDO. Pero eso debe ser el amor que siento hacia ellas…
(Lo mismo pasa con los esposos... Piensas que es el mas bello del mundo pero te aseguro es el amor, jaja. Llegastes de trabajar, mi amor?)

These are "my girls", A and S, on New Year's Eve. Well, actually, they are my nieces, my brother's daughters. To me they are the MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRLS IN THE WHOLE WORLD. But, I guess that's just the love I feel for them... (Same thing happens with the spouses... You think he/she is the most beautiful/handsome spouse in the whole world but I can assure you it's the love, haha. Hi honey, back so soon from work?)

Arroz & Habichuelas / Rice & Beans

Quién iba a imaginar que preparar un caldero de arroz y habichuelas abarcaría tantas destrezas? Medir, menear, mezclar, vertir, coordinación ojo-mano, motor fino, ... y pegar sucio y grasa en la pared de la cocina son solo alguna de ellas. Buen provecho!

Who would've thought that making rice and beans would cover so many skills? Measuring, stiring, mixing, pouring, eye-hand coordination, fine motor, ... and sticking grease and dirt on the kitchen wall are only some of these.  Bon appetit!
