Valentine’s Artwork/Arte de San Valentín

 

Los nenes hicieron esta obra para llevarla al hospital de niños San Jorge el Día de San Valentín. Pero por razones de enfermedad no podremos asistir a la actividad.  Aun así, disfrutamos mucho haciendo el trabajo.

The boys made these artworks for the children of San Jorge’s Hospital. We were supposed to take it on Valentine’s Day but some of us have been sick around here. So, we won’t be able to make the trip. Any how, we did enjoy making the craft together.

• Worked independently and was creative enough to use seeds from nature to decorate his work of art

Éstas son las otras actividades que Ym ha estado trabajando, en adición a las de Lenguaje y Matemática.  De éstas, su favorita sigue siendo Ciencia, siempre y cuando sea “en vivo” y mediante experimentos. No le encanta la nomenclatura todavía. Arte también ocupa mucho de su tiempo cuando él mismo selecciona los materiales y usa su creatividad. 

Besides Language and Math, these are the other activities Ym has been working on. Science is still his favorite one as long as he learns from the “real thing” and does lots of experiments. He’s still not into nomenclature cards.  He also spends much of his time doing artsy projects in which he gets to choose the materials and use his creativity.

 

Ciencia / Science

Aprendiendo un poco sobre las semillas.  Learning about the seeds.

 

 

 

Removiendo semillas de una manzana.  Pudo ver que las semillas estaban dentro de la manzana.  Removing the seeds from an apple. He learned that the seeds were inside the apple.

 

 

 

Aprendiendo sobre el ciclo de vidad de la hoja y observando cómo van cambiando de color. Repasamos lo que ocurre con las hojas en Otoño e Invierno. Learning about the leaf life cycle and observing how leaves change in color. We also reviewed what happens to leaves during Autumn and Winter.

 

 

La colección de hojas que recojimos en una caminata. Mi favorita es la última a la derecha.  No sé si la puedan ver. Ésta ya se estaba descomponiendo y me sirvió para presentar las venas de la hoja.  Leaves we collected during a nature walk. My favorite one is the last one on the right end.  The one you can hardly see because it was decomposing already. It helped me show the leaf veins to the boys.

Ya habíamos mezclado colores AQUÍ y AQUÍ pero ahora fue que realmente entendió cuales son colores secundarios y como obtenerlos.  We had done this activity before HERE and HERE . But it wasn’t until now that he really learned about the secondary colors and how to obtain them.

 

 

 

Investigando cuales objetos son magnéticos y cuales no.  Los rótulos los pueden encontrar AQUÍ.  Por si no lo saben, Montessori For Everyone tiene otros materiales para imprimir gratis. Gracias Lori.  Finding out which objects are magnetic and which aren’t. I used the title cards from HERE.  In case you don’t know, Montessori for Everyone has more free printables . Thanks Lori.

Y otra más… Trabajó 8 extensiones en total. Algunas solo y otras con su hermano. Algunas usando fotos como referencia encontradas AQUÍ y otras de su imaginación.  Gracias Jennie (My Montessori Story) por compartir estas fotos.  Gracias Natasha (Leptir) por tu estupendo post y por la idea de usar las fotos en el salon. Las imprimi en Walgreens por 10¢ cada una. And another one… He worked on 8 different extensions.  Some he did by himself and others with his brother.  Some he did by using reference pictures found HERE and others by using his imagination. Thank you Jennie (My Montessori Story) for sharing the pictures.   Thank you Natasha (Leptir) for your wonderful post and idea about using these pictures in the classroom. I got them printed in Walgreens for 10¢ each.

Musica / Music

Practicando su violín en casa.  Nos está funcionando hacerlo después del desayuno.  Para lograrlo tuvimos que hacer ajustes en nuestro rítmo diario.  Playing violin at home.  Scheduling his practice right after breakfast is really working for us.  We had to make a few adjustments to our daily rhythm to get there.

Usar el sistema de sellitos también lo ha motivado mucho.  Imprimí la página de colorear de AQUÍ. Y Ym mismo le pega estrellitas cuando practica.  La regla es que no se puede pedir juguete ni cualquier otra cosa que tenga que comprar como premio.  We’ve had an extra help from our friends “the stickers”.  I just printed the coloring page I found HERE and have him put the stickers himself after practice. The only rule is not to ask for toys or anything that I would have to buy as his reward.

Actividades de Otoño/Autumn Activities

El Otoño… una de las estaciones que recuerdo más hermosas de los Estados Unidos... Creo que de esta fascinación nació mi entusiasmo por incluir el tema de Las Estaciones en nuestras experiencias de aprendizaje. (Aunque el otoño dura hasta el 21 o 22 de diciembre me siento que este post es mas vejo que Matusalén.)
***Autumn... one of the most beautiful seasons that I remember about the United States... I believe this is where I got my passion of learning about The Seasons with my children. (If autumn ends on December 21 or 22, why do I feel this post is extremely old?)


Arte y Manualidades / Art and Crafts



Yn y yo hicimos esta manualidad de hojas para decorar la casa. La mayoría las hice yo pero me emocionó mucho ver a Yn haciendo su mejor esfuerzo por coser. Llevaba tiempo pidiéndome que le enseñara a hacerlo. Esta manualidad fue tomada de AQUÍ.
***Yn and I did this leaves craft to decorate our home. I sew most of them but I have to say I was very excited to see Yn making his best effort in sewing. He had been asking me to show him how to sew for quite a while. This craft was taken from HERE.

Vida Práctica / Practical Life

Preparé esta actividad con botones de hojas de otoño. El propósito era clasificar las hojas por color y por tamaño. La verdad es que le resultó un poco aburrida a Ym.

***I prepared this activity using autumn leaves buttons. The purpose was to sort by color and size. But, truth be told, Ym found this really boring.




















Ym usando pinzas grandes y pequeñas para transferir conos. Esta hielera anaranjada la consiguió Karen. Ella siempre encuentra materiales espectaculares!

***Ym using tongs and tweezers to transfer pine cones. Karen got this orange ice maker for us. She always finds amazing things!

Yn y Ym decorando nuestro hogar cuando comenzó el otoño. Por supuesto, jugaron un poco con las pegatinas gelatinosas antes de ponerlas finalmente. Si no fuera así, dejarían de ser mis "Pequeños Traviesos".

***Yn and Ym decorating our home when autumn started. Of course, they played with the gel stickers before finally placing them on the door. We don't call them "Little Rascals" for nothing.

Matemática / Math

Usando un poco de los recursos de la naturaleza ---semillas de palmas de coco--- para contar. Si consigo una foto de la actividad se las presentaré más adelante.

***Using nature resources ---coconut palm seeds--- to count at home. If I ever find a picture of the activity I will share it in the future.

















Lenguaje / Language

Memoria---un juego muy sencillo y divertido con un gran propósito: ayudar a la concentración, memoria visual y discriminación. Es por esto que se considera una actividad de pre-lectura. Aunque lo habíamos intentado anteriormente, esta es la 1ra vez que Ym realmente juega Memoria siguiendo las reglas. Parece que las cartas de otoño le interesaron mucho.
***Memory---a simple and fun game with a great purpose: to help building concentration, visual memory and discrimination abilities. This is why it is considered a pre-reading activity. Although we had tried it before, this is the 1st time Ym actually plays the game. It seems that the autumn theme really got him interested.
