Ym’s School Work

Para una persona visual como yo no hay nada mejor que recopilar fotos de nuestro hogar-escuela. Me brinda un panorama de lo que esta pasando ---un mapa---.    

Esta colección de fotos muestra algunas de las actividades que Ym ha estado trabajado. En términos generales, he notado que su concentración e interés han mejorado mucho y que  está mostrando interés en Lenguaje y Matemática. Del resto de las materias les hablo en mi siguiente post para no hacer este demasiado largo.

To a visual person like me there’s nothing better than putting together homeschooling pictures. It gives me a view of what is happening ---a map---.

This collection of photos shows Ym’s school work and progress. In general terms, I’ve noticed his concentration and interest have greatly improved. He is finally showing interest in Language and Math.  I’ll talk about the rest of the subjects in my next post. I don’t want to make this one too long.

Lenguaje / Language

Pareando sonido inicial con objetos.  Matching initial sounds to objects.

 

 

 

 

Trabajando canastas de sonido inicial. Las canastas tienen la letra de lija, la letra del alfabeto móvil, objetos y láminas. Working with initial sound baskets. Each basket includes a sandpaper letter, a movable alphabet letter, objects and pictures.

Haciendo libritos de sonido inicial de palabras.  Practicó palabras que empiezan con este sonido, y además, recortó, pegó y usó la perforadora. Making initial sounds mini-books. He practiced beginning sounds, and also, used scissors, glued and punched holes.

Veo-veo / I Spy --- No tengo fotos pero este es un juego que ha ayudado mucho a Ym. Hemos repasado el sonido inicial y también comenzado a aprender sobre el sonido final.  A veces usamos objetos para jugarlo.  I don’t have any pictures to share but this is a game that has helped Ym a lot.  We have reinforced initial sounds and have begun to learn about final sounds. Sometimes we use objects to play the game.

Juego de la Rima / Rhyming Game --- Este juego es muy sencillo y a Ym le encanta. Para jugar solo necesitas a alguien que diga una palabra cualquiera en voz alta. Los demás deberán decir palabras que riman. Lo jugamos en Español e Inglés. A veces Ym se inventa palabras que ni existen… pero que riman perfectamente bien.  This game is very simple yet Ym’s favorite.  To play you just need to say any word aloud and have the other players say words that rhyme. We play it in Spanish and English. Sometimes Ym would say words that don’t even exist… but, oh yes, they sure rhyme.

Matemática/ Math

Este otro conjunto de tarjetas de CARS trabaja la misma destreza. Las preparé en casa de una manera bién fácil. Solo necesita sellitos de su preferencia, tarjetas 3 x 5”, marcador y laminadora o “contact paper”. El niño podrá circular o ponerle un pinche de ropa.  These other CARS cards work on the same skill. I made these myself the easy/cheap way. I just used stickers, 3 x 5” index cards, a marker, and a laminator. The child could circle the answer with a dry erase marker or use clothes pins.

Jugando Dominos…como los viejitos. Yn le enseño a jugar y Ym ganó el primer y segundo juego. Suerte de principiante!  Playing dominoes… like a little old man. Yn taught his little brother to play. So, little brother learned his lesson so well that he won his first AND second game. Beginner’s luck, I guess!

Sumando y Restando hasta el 10 --- Esto lo hemos estado haciendo de una manera casual con objetos del diario vivir. Por ejemplo, si tiene 5 chocolates yo le quito uno y le pregunto cuantos quedan. Y si tiene 4 creyones yo le entrego 4 adicionales y le pregunto cuantos creyones tiene en total.

Adding and Substracting up to 10 --- We’ve been doing this in a casual way with everyday objects.  For example, if he has 5 chocolates I remove one and ask him how many are left.  And, if he has 4 crayons I hand him 4 more and ask how many are there together.

Nos hemos estado divirtiendo mucho. Y eso es lo que cuenta!!!

Láminas CASERAS / DIY Pictures (Parte II/Part II)

A continuación el tutorial que les prometí AQUÍ de cómo hacer las láminas para trabajar Lenguaje, y su carterita. El material de Lenguaje que trabajará el niño son las láminas iguales las cuales deberá parear. La carterita es simplemente un extra para cautivarlo y trabajar Vida Práctica.

***Following is the tutorial I promised HERE on how to makes these Language pictures, and the little case . The child will work on Language by matching same pictures. The little case is an extra to keep the pictures in a safe place, get their attention, and work on Practical Life, as well.





Láminas Iguales

1. Recorte cada una de las láminas de ambos lados de la bolsa de regalo para tener un par de cada una. ***Cut each picture from both sides of the gift bag. This way you'll end up with two of each.
2. Lamine las láminas, si desea. En mi caso, no fue necesario ya que el material de la bolsa de regalo era grueso. Además, no tengo otros niños que estarán usando este material. Así, también ahorro en materiales. Pero cada caso es distinto, y eso lo respeto. ***Laminate the pictures, if necessary. In my case, this was not necessary as the gift bag was thick enough. In addition, I don't have other kids that will be using the material. Plus, I DO save money by doing this. But each case is different and I respect this.

Carterita

1. Recorte ambos lados de la bolsa de regalo y divida uno de los lados en dos partes de 1/3 y 2/3, aproximádamente. ***Cut both sides of the gift bag, and cut again one of the sides in two sections which approximately measure 1/3 and 2/3.

2. Voltee dos secciones: el lado más largo y el de 2/3. La sección que sobra se usa para hacerle un borde a la carterita.***Turn over two sections: the longest one and the 2/3 one. The remaining section is used to make a border for the case.

3. Deslize uno dentro del otro como se ilustra en la siguiente foto. ***Slide one side inside of the other as the following ilustration shows.

4. Coloque en los bolsillos anaranjados las láminas a parear, un set a cada lado. Los bolsillos se hacen de dobleces en el papel. ***Place inside the orange pockets the pictures to match, one set on each side. To make the pockets just fold the paper.

5. Peque o grape los bordes para mantenerlos fijos. ***Glue or staple the sides to keep them together.

6. Doble la solapa de la parte superior de la carterita y pegue un pedazo de velcro para poder cerrarla. La carterita deberá verse como la foto que le sigue, o algo parecido a esto. ***Fold the top flap and stick a little piece of velcro to be able to close it. The case should look like the following photo, or something like it.


7. Amarre uno de los cordones de la bolsa de regalo para darle el toque final a la carterita, y colóquelo como se muestra en la foto anterior. Hay muchas formas de hacer esto. Yo simplemente la coloqué así. De esta forma, el niño lo puede remover y poner de vuelta cuando guste. ***Tie one of the gift bag laces for the final touch, and place it as shown on the previous a photo. {Now that I think about it the "case" really resembles a purse.} There are many ways to do this. I simply placed it like this so the child would have the option to remove it and place it back.

De esta fabulosa bolsa de regalo que me dió mi querida vecina para el Día de las Madres.

El regalo no era la bolsa de regalo, sino lo que estaba dentro de ella.

Pero, al fin de cuentas, ambas cosas fueron mi regalo, no creen?

MAS Trabajos Pre-escolares / MORE Preschool Work

Siempre tengo que cautivar a Ym para que haga sus trabajos escolares. Tengo que hacer cosas que ustedes ni se imaginan. Pero esto no es un secreto... Así que si algún día me ven con una nariz roja de payaso no se sorprendan!

I always have to work around Ym to get him in the mood to do school work. I usually have to do things you wouldn't even imagine. But this is no secret... So, if you see me one day wearing a big red clown nose, don't be surprised!

MATEMÁTICA / MATH

Esta es el pequeño maletín donde le presento los números a Ym. Le llamamos nuestra cajita sorpresa de los números---pero, como pueden ver, no es nada parecido a una cajita.

This is the little case I use to present Ym the numerals. We call it the surprise number box---but, as you can see, it is no box, what so ever.

Aquí presenté el #6 y Ym contó 6 bolas de balompié.

También contó 6 ositos de dulce o gummi bears y formó con estos el #6.

GEOMETRÍA / GEOMETRY

Esto fue un poco de geometría casera. En una ocasión mencionó que era un triángulo recto. Seguramente, lo dijo porque ha escuchado a su hermano mayor.

GEOGRAFÍA / GEOGRAPHY

Usamos este globo de lija para presentar los conceptos de tierra, agua y el Planeta Tierra, nuestro hogar. El punto rojo fue para marcar a Puerto Rico.

We used this sandpaper globe to present the concepts of land, water and Planet Earth, our home. The red dot was used to locate Puerto Rico.

ARTE / ART

Hace un tiempo atrás decidí retocar los números de lija caseros con un poco de pintura amarilla. Y, por supuesto, Ym quiso colaborar. Pero mamá sufrió una crisis nerviosa y prefirió darle esta tarea sustituta… (Imagínen un niño de 3 pintando números de lija previamente pegados sobre cartulina!) Así que le permití que elaborara sus propios “números de lija”. La pintura negra la escogió él. :-o

I decided a while back to retouch my homemade sandpaper numerals with yellow paint. And, of course, Ym was willing to colaborate. But Ym's mother had a crisis and preferred to have him do this substitute work...

(Just imagine a 3 year old painting sandpaper numerals that had been already glued to cardstock!) So, I let him elaborate his own "sandpaper numeral". He chose the black paint himself. :-o
